Apparently, the pen is mightier than the sword. Not wishing to knock the pen, but that depends on the situation. Take the Battle of Culloden in 1746: definitely a ‘bring your sword, but don’t worry too much about your pen’ kind of a day. I’d have felt pretty exposed with just a Biro, some tartan-clad screaming Jacobite coming at me with a claymore while I try to remove the lid from my mighty ballpoint. Luckily that’s not a choice I have to make today, so I write copy for organisations far and wide, big and small. I also specialise in writing bids and funding applications. And if you’ve already got some words (not swords) that need sharpening, I’m a sub-editor too. In fact, the closest I ever come to anything resembling a battlefield is occasionally having to rescue some badly butchered writing from certain death.
